100+ Years of Shacks. A New Home in Rockingham.
The family that's looked after Fremantle for a century now welcomes you to Rockingham.
Three generations of the Shack family built their name fixing cars on the streets of Fremantle.
Today, that same care continues at Rockingham Volkswagen — a state-of-the-art home for the full VW range, just down the road.
Our Story
A Fremantle story, three generations in the making.
After returning from the First World War, Andy Shack fixed a stranded delivery truck outside a Coogee butchery — and was offered a job on the spot. By 1922 he'd opened his own repair shop on Adelaide Street, Fremantle. What began as a one-man garage grew, through the Shack and Kerr families, into one of WA's most trusted motoring names — Holden, GMSV, HSV, Mazda, Volkswagen, and Geely.
In 2020, after a century rooted in Fremantle, the family's Volkswagen dealership found its permanent home at Smeaton Way, Rockingham — built to give every visitor the same personal service Andy gave that first customer, over 100 years ago.
